Stefanos Dedas was born on May 10, 1982 and started playing basketball in his home town (Kilkis, northern Greece)at the age of just 7, being part of a generation that was inspired and loved basketball through the huge success of the National team in 1987 winning the gold medal in Athens Eurobasket. The image of the awarding of the trophy in the hands of Galis, Giannakis and the other players was the starting point to lay the strongest foundations for Stefanos’ feelings towards our favorite sport! He successively went through all the mini, cadets and junior team up to the men’s team. At the same time, at the age of 17, while still a high school student, he made his first coaching attempt by taking over the junior team of the club born in 1984.
After two years in the infrastructure of Kilkis, he began his professional career at the age of 19 on the bench of the men’s team of PAOK as an assistant coach to Bane Prelevic and Yannis Sfairopoulos, being the youngest coach in the history of the club. He then worked in all the Thessaloniki teams in A1 Iraklis, Aris and MENT as an assistant coach. Among the names he worked with were European basketball legend Jurij Zdovc, David Blatt, Fotis Katsikaris, Lefteris Subotics and other well-known coaches.
In the Summer of 2009, he was a member of the Slovenian National Team, which won 4th place at eurobasket in Poland. For two years 2011-13 he worked in Russia, in St. Petersburg, and from there he followed an 8-year period in Turkey in Gaziantep and Bahçeşehir, working for 5 years as head coach in both teams.
In the summers of 2014 and 2015, he worked again for the Slovenian national team with Jurij Zdovc in the Spain World Cup and the France eurobasket respectively. After that he spent two years in Israel with Hapoel Holon to be crowned coach of the year 2020-21. Then and after a period at AEK as head coach, followed by cooperation in CSKA and Fenerbahce with Dimitris Itoudis until December 2023. He participated in 3 international clinic as lecturer showing his offensive philosophy (2017 Istanbul Turkish coaches association, 2020 Web seminar of Greek coaches association, 2023 Antalya Euroleague Head coaches board association).
